We are seeking an exceptional Programme Manager to join a growing research team as part of the University of Plymouth’s Centre for Intellectual Disability Equitable Research based in Truro. The role will work alongside Professor John Terry and Professor Rohit Shakar to deliver exciting research that will transform community-based healthcare. This pivotal role is a unique opportunity to shape the future of neurological care whilst managing three complementary, high-impact research programmes that collectively represent over £4 million in research funding.
About the role
The research programmes you will manage are united by a common vision: developing technologies that shift the emphasis of neurological care from hospital to non-hospital environments. This includes community diagnostic hubs, GP surgeries, mobile units, and even patients' homes. Through mathematical modelling, digital biomarkers, and innovative neurotechnology, our research is creating new pathways for diagnosis, prognosis, and management of neurological conditions including epilepsy, dementia, functional neurological disorder, and stroke.
What makes this opportunity particularly exciting is the opportunity to help develop and evolve a dynamic ecosystem where academics, clinicians, charities, health tech innovators, industry partners and funders work collaboratively to co-design and deliver our research. At the heart of the ecosystem are people with neurological conditions, whose lived experience is critical to the research questions that we address.
Innovation Mindset: You will be excited by the opportunity to contribute to research that has the potential to improve the lives of people with neurological conditions and to work at the cutting edge of healthcare innovation. Enthusiasm for the potential of technologies (in all forms) to transform healthcare is key.
Programme Management: You will have the ability to create detailed project plans, manage budgets across multiple funding streams and identifying synergies between programmes to maximise the collective impact of the portfolio.
Strategy Development: You will contribute to developing our research strategy, horizon scanning for sources of funding, emerging trends in neurotechnology and healthcare policy, to ensure our research programmes remain at the forefront of innovation.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Management: Our success is dependent on effective engagement with a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders including healthcare professionals, patients and carers, industry partners, policy makers, and academic collaborators. Through the N-CODE network alone, we have approaching 100 such stakeholders. This requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and sectors.
Research Coordination: You will oversee the day-to-day coordination of research activities across a portfolio or research activities, ensuring that projects progress according to schedule and deliver high-quality outputs. Confidence in the development and implementation of robust project management systems, regular monitoring of progress against milestones, and the preparation of comprehensive reports for funders and stakeholders is key.
Financial Management: You will need strong financial management skills and attention to detail. This includes preparing budget forecasts, monitoring expenditure, and ensuring compliance with funder requirements. You will work closely with university finance teams and external partners to ensure efficient use of resources and transparent financial reporting.
