A Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is sought for the EPSRC-funded research project: STORMLAMP (STructural behaviour Of Rock-Mounted Lighthouses At the Mercy of imPulsive waves). Academics from University of Plymouth, University of Exeter and UCL are working with the UK General Lighthouse Authorities to develop methods to monitor and model rock lighthouses that are vulnerable to wave impacts. The post will be based at University of Plymouth in the School of Engineering, but you will also work closely on field data analysis with a technician in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter.
At University of Plymouth, you will be in charge of lighthouse physical modelling in the Coastal Ocean and Sediment Transport (COAST) laboratory. Close collaboration with the University of Exeter will involve interpretation of field data with weather and video information. You will also provide field and laboratory data for the team in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at UCL who are developing discrete/finite element models of lighthouse structures.
The physical modelling in the COAST laboratory will require knowledge of hydrodynamics and associated instrumentation e.g. reflection analysis, impact loads, Matlab skills. Field data analysis will require significant experience with statistical methods; image processing skills may also be required.
