The Clinical Psychology Programme in Plymouth is nationally recognised for its innovative approach to teaching and learning, training for values based practice, and for its critical approach to psychological knowledge. It strives to deliver high quality clinical training in the South West Peninsula Region. Service receiver participation is fully embedded in all aspects of programme delivery. The Health and Care Professions Council have approved the programme and it was successfully re-accredited by the British Psychological Society in 2017. Commendations included clear values based philosophy and reflective practice, inclusion of service receivers in programme delivery, staff commitment, and strong leadership and teamwork in challenging times. The Programme has an expected annual intake of 11 trainees for 2018, with 35 trainees anticipated in total for 2018-19 enrolled. The School itself draws on a wide range of expertise covering multiple levels of the biopsychosocial approach. It has an international reputation for research in cognitive neuroscience. The University's commitment to supporting research in Psychology was demonstrated recently with a multi-million pound investment to establish a University Brain Research and Imaging Centre (BRIC) which has launched this year. The School's research profile places it in the top third of psychology departments in the UK, with 85% of its research activity rated at international standard. Programmes within the School include a BSc (Hons) Psychology, MPsych Advanced Psychology (pathways in cognitive neuroscience, clinical, and behaviour change) and MSc Psychological Research. In 2019 a new Masters in Clinical Psychology will begin.
You will make a major contribution to delivering the research component of training, which includes supervising trainee research with a clear target to publish as well as supporting them through smaller scale research projects. You will join a team of nine part-time members when fully staffed, all committed to training highly skilled professionals to meet the changing needs of health and social care services.
A PhD or equivalent international qualification or commensurate level of recognition/international profile in a relevant discipline is essential, along with experience of delivering high quality research led teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
