The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a large, dynamic and successful faculty, employing 280 academic staff across four academic schools, supported by 80 professional support staff and 100 technical staff. It teaches a diverse and successful portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In total, there are currently 5,162 undergraduates, 216 masters level students and 260 students registered for a higher research degree (MPhil/PhD). The Faculty is looking to appoint to the exciting role of Director of Industrial and Strategic Partnerships to drive forward relationships with industry and external partners.
Reporting into the Executive Dean, the Director will effectively utilise strong national and international business relationships to enable the Faculty to achieve academic, research and innovation strategic goals. Specifically this will involve identifying and developing external market opportunities to enable the Faculty to maximise its full potential. Working with the Institute Directors, Heads of School. Director of R&I and the CEO of the Plymouth Science Park, the Director of Industrial & Strategic Partnerships will enhance the international profile of the Faculty whilst influencing the wider University agenda.
A self-starter and highly motivated individual, you will be a proven leader with a record of developing and delivering strategic plans, demonstrating an understanding of the HE research sector, governmental and industry collaboration across HE research, innovation and enterprise. Ideally with senior leadership experience in a similar role, you will need to have a genuine passion for research, innovation and commercialisation. A strong and effective communicator you will have a record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships with a range of customers and stakeholders, preferably set within a Higher Education environment.
Flexibility for international travel will be required, and although you will be required to work in Plymouth, the base location is flexible, as outreach work will be expected to take place in London, and other appropriate strategic locations.
