An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced manager to join the Faculty of Arts & Humanities in the role of Technical Manager (Art, Design & Architecture [ADA]).
The Faculty consists of 3 academic Schools; the School of Art, Design & Architecture, the School of Humanities & Preforming Arts and the Plymouth Institute of Education, all of which contain technical teams supporting the majority of our 4,000 students.
As Technical Manager (ADA) you will support the Faculty Business Manager, Faculty Technical Manager, and the School Executive (Art, Design & Architecture) in managing a team of 31 technical staff providing a high quality, effective and responsive service to students and staff across the School supporting world class teaching and research. Supported by Technical Supervisors you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and leadership of the technical service across a diverse range of subject areas including Architecture, Building, Digital Art & Technology, Fine Art, Graphic Communications, Illustration, Media Arts and Photography. The operations and maintenance of workshops including wood, metal, ceramics, casting and moulding, letterpress and typography, in addition to studios comprising of photography, moving image, and sound and music is also part of your remit.
As a professional services leader within the Faculty you will need to have experience of working in a similar role, demonstrating high level management skills, a proven track record of delivering plans and policies for effective and efficient service delivery in addition to overseeing operational developments. You will be expected to take responsibility for the provision of the effective leadership, planning and management of the technical delivery within your area, ensuring the health and safety of staff and students whilst working in faculty based workshops and studios.
You will be a confident communicator and will need to develop close working partnerships with senior management and academic colleagues across both the School, Faculty and, at times, the wider University.
You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent), and will have a proven track record of leading, managing or supervising a technical team. You will be highly organised being able to prioritise your workloads and that of others within a busy and constantly changing environment.
This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis. Interviews are expected to be held on 21 November 2017.
