The Medical Statistics Group at the University of Plymouth is a group of medical statisticians with a broad range of knowledge, skills and experience. The Medical Statistics Group is based within our Faculty of Health, which has amongst the broadest range of health and social care professional education in the UK, with 4,500 professionals in training at any time across 60 programmes in six schools integrated into single Faculty. Delivered through its Plymouth Institute for Health and Care Research our researchers form a thriving community that conducts adventurous world-leading research with the explicit purpose of improving the health and care of the populations we serve. The group works seamlessly with the UKCRC-registered Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit (PenCTU), a leading academic clinical trials unit with expertise in designing, developing and delivering high quality, multi-centre clinical trials and other well-designed studies that will directly influence clinical and healthcare practice. In addition to clinical trials, the Medical Statistics Group undertakes other types of research including biomedical and clinical studies (e.g. screening and diagnostics; longitudinal studies), commercial projects, training/consultancy and teaching, within the university and beyond. The group is proud to have run the Down’s syndrome screening Quality Assurance Support Service (DQASS) since its inception in 2006.
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated senior statistician to lead research, consultancy and teaching activities in the successful Medical Statistics Group. You will lead in continuing the strategic development of the Group, including securing substantial external funding. This position is supported by a full-time Research Fellow post in Medical Statistics, to be appointed by the successful candidate.
This post also provides an opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to undertake the role of the Director of PenCTU, leading the strategic development and management of PenCTU. PenCTU has held Full UKCRC-registration since 2007 and works in partnership with clinicians, researchers, the NIHR Research Design Service South West, the Clinical Research Network and other partners from across the South West Peninsula and beyond.
You will have a doctorate degree in a relevant field or commensurate profile in Medical Statistics/Biostatistics and substantial experience at Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer/Reader) or Professorial level. You will have a track record of attracting significant research funding in fields related to clinical trials/health services research and being able to deliver internationally esteemed research outputs, evidenced through publications and other indicators.
