The School of Art, Design and Architecture, situated within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business are seeking to recruit an experienced senior technician in design and fabrication to our technical team.
Under the direction of the School Technical Manager you will be required to support the teaching and learning of our students through specialist support in fabrication practices and processes, supporting skills transfer in fabrication tools, equipment and software where required. In this student facing role, you will participate in running our Digital Fabrication Lab and its resources within our additive and subtractive areas. You will providing high-quality inductions to our students and programmes, as well as supporting fellow senior technicians to provide specialists delivery and support of module outcomes required from academic delivery. The role will require you to lead student facing inductions and workshops, in order to sign-off competencies in the safe and confident use of resources and specialist facilities. Within this role, you will also be involved in support the developing external engagements and initiatives of the labs, via stake holder and business partners engagement.
We are looking for a positive, dynamic and resourceful individual with the ability to develop strong professional working relationships with our students, academic staff and our professional partners. You must be able to work as part of a team, but also be self-motivate with the initiative to prioritise workloads and fulfil technical tasks and duties set out by the School Technical Manager. As a member of the school’s technical compliment, you will also be required to support the teaching and learning of our schools programmes, through high-quality technical inductions and support, within a range of specialist facilities and resources associated to the roles skills. The role requires a high-level of skills and knowledge within this discipline, along with experience in technical delivery, using stock control and bookings systems, to help support and maintain the smooth running of the lab and its resources provided.
The role is situated within our fabrication labs in our main arts building (Roland Levinski), located at our central campus of Drake Circus. Situated in the city centre of Plymouth, we are located 10 minutes from the nearest train station and 15 minutes from the nearest park and ride, commuting to us can be easily considered when applying for this role.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
