The School of Computing, Electronics and Mathematics in the Faculty of Science & Engineering invite applications for the post of Technical Assistant.
You will join a highly specialist team to provide support to the Communications & Electronics team, by undertaking a range of duties related to the operation of our project store including the husbandry of our laboratories and other storage areas as required.
The role, will involve: direct contact with students engaged in practical projects, kitting and issuing a range of electronic components and other parts, the ordering of stock for the various teaching module boxes, restocking of electronic components on a regular basis and the monitoring, issuing & recording of equipment loans.
Maintaining accurate records in the form of data entry into spreadsheets and databases is an essential part of the job. Additionally you will be required to use 'Agresso' (University finance software) for purchasing and for which specific training will be provided. Other duties will include the updating of procedures and document filing.
The role will involve some manual handling of equipment between various storage areas.
You will be an organised tidy worker who is enthusiastic and self-motivated with the ability to multitask in a varying workload environment, within a highly experienced, diverse team. A flexible approach to your duties and a willingness to learn will be required. We would expect you to be educated to Entry level 2 (GCSE A*-C) or equivalent in Maths and English. Confident with the basic use of computers and having good interpersonal skills.
You should have a basic purchasing background, ideally with some knowledge of electronic components. A good operational level of experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access database and the use of electronic email is required.
