Based in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is a friendly, creative and inspiring place to study and covers the subject areas of civil and coastal engineering, computing, electrical and electronic engineering and robotics, mathematical sciences, mechanical, marine and materials engineering, and navigation and maritime science. Applications are invited from outstanding individuals for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Statistics.
You will undertake research in order to contribute to and support work on a grant funded EPSRC project ‘Dependence Modelling with Vine Copulas for the Integration of Unstructured and Structured Data’.
This project aims at developing cutting-edge vine copula methodology to model the dependence structure between various types of variables derived by structured and unstructured information. This research will also involve designing a novel Bayesian methodology and related computational framework for vine copula modelling.

Areas of research include: copula modelling, Bayesian inference, MCMC methods, and time series analysis. The candidate must have a solid background in at least one of these areas, or in a closely related field, and a willingness and ability to develop forefront knowledge across a range of them.
You will have a PhD or approaching PhD completion in statistics, mathematics, physics, data science or an alternative field with a strong mathematical and statistical background. You will be an experienced team worker and will be accustomed to working to deadlines. You will be able to prioritise and self-manage, and will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis for a period of 6 months due to funding.
