The Green Minds project is funded through the EU Urban Innovation Actions* programme that aims to experiment with creative, innovative and durable solutions to address the challenges linked to the digital transition, sustainable use of land and nature based solutions, urban poverty and urban security.
The project is an innovative city wide partnership that aims to imagine the future of greenspace. It will use creative digital technologies to reveal and value nature in the city. The role will involve creative co-design with digital technologies to foster engagement with greenspace. Working in partnership with The Data Place it will also create a participatory open data platform for the city. The project will develop a series of site specific projects and interventions across the city that will aim to create a better model of civic engagement and governance within the urban greenspace. The project aims to achieve broader social impact around health and wellbeing outcomes through making nature accessible to those from marginal and excluded groups.
The project is a partnership with a wide range of civic partners including Plymouth City Council, The Data Place, RIO (Real Ideas Organisation) National Trust, Devon Wildlife Trust and Plymouth College of Art.
*Urban Innovative Actions is an Initiative of the European Union promoting pilot projects in the field of sustainable urban development.
This role sits within the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University, and is a collaboration with a range of city-wide partners. This will include working creatively with local stakeholders and user groups, with a focus on marginalised or excluded communities. You will be responsible for the co-design activities, technology prototyping and data gathering and evaluation, and you will be familiar with a range of technologies such as Internet of Things, Augmented Reality and Open data. You will also be involved in collaborating across a multi-disciplinary network, coordinating tasks within the project team and contributing to the wider project objectives. You will need strong organisational skills, an ability to work on your own initiative and have experience of working collaboratively, including coordinating with collaborators and external stakeholders. It will also involve evaluation and dissemination of the project outcomes through toolkits, academic papers and policy documents.
You will have:
Ideally you will have practical postgraduate employment or experience of creative co-design, digital prototyping and public engagement in urban settings. An understanding of data gathering, analysis and evaluation will also be an advantage, as will evidence of publishing research outcomes and preparing written reports.
You will be based in the School of Art, Design and Architecture in Plymouth, but will be expected to spend some part of their time in various sites across the city of Plymouth.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until 31 August 2023 due to the nature of the funding.
