At the University of Plymouth, it is in our nature to innovate - be that in our teaching or in our research. We strive for the highest quality in all that we do - pushing boundaries isn't just encouraged, it is expected.
Ranked 2nd in the UK in The Times Higher Education Global Young Universities Rankings 2018 and building on our strengths, we now have opportunities within the Planning & Analytics Office where we are seeking people who can contribute to our journey bringing fresh perspectives and new ideas.
If you are eager for a fresh challenge and want to build your career with a University which has ambition then we want to hear from you.
The Planning & Analytics Office (PAO) is the engine room that enables the University to deliver its strategy by informing strategic decisions, advising on strategic actions, and enabling strategic planning and change. PAO provides critical, foundational services for a data-driven, strategy-led and collaborative culture at the University.
In recent years, all universities have experienced radical changes in the external operating environment. At Plymouth, we have recognized the critical importance of clear strategy, effective planning and high quality data in enabling us to adapt and remain competitive in this rapidly shifting landscape. But the challenges remain and our ambitions are high, and we now wish to develop further our capabilities in strategic analysis and planning, and make them leading-edge.
To ensure we continue to operate ahead of the curve in an informed way, we have created two critical new senior-management roles, the Head of Data Analytics and the Head of Strategic Planning, reporting to the Head of PAO, responsible for delivering new and enhanced capability in these critical areas of activity for the University. For further information on the Head of Data Analytics role, please visit www.plymouth.ac.uk/jobs and search for Job Reference A6463.
This is a great opportunity to join a newly-organised team, set the direction for the future and, as part of the senior management team, play a critical part in making PAO leading-edge in the sector in strategic planning.
The Head of Strategic Planning is responsible for leading the strategic planning activity of PAO, playing a central role in ensuring that University strategy is developed and applied in an integrated and agile framework, based on a sophisticated understanding of the external environment.
We are looking for someone who will flourish in what is a pivotal role in the University, leading a team of talented individuals engaged in delivering a range of planning, policy and insight services, whilst working closely with senior leaders to develop analyses, scenarios and options, and formulate strategic plans and initiatives, which transform the lives of our students and deliver our ambitions for education and research.
You will be active externally, acting as the University's management-level contact point with the Office for Students, analysing developments in the HE operating environment, generating external perspectives on the relative positioning of the University and its academic portfolio, and providing expert insight into market dynamics to optimise the University's core undergraduate student recruitment activity and support further growth in critical postgraduate and international markets.
You will have a strong track record of developing and implementing successful strategic plans in a complex organisation with a proven ability to work through senior teams to an institution's advantage.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the job description in your supporting statement.
For an informal discussion to find out more about the role, do please contact Tim Sydenham, Head of PAO, by email (tim.sydenham@plymouth.ac.uk) to arrange a telephone conversation.
Interviews are likely to take place in the week commencing 3rd June 2019 and you will be notified if you have been shortlisted or not.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.
A relocation package is available with this role.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
