The Biological Sciences Group within the School of Biological & Marine Sciences at the University of Plymouth is seeking to appoint a new Lecturer. You will have expertise within the general remit of animal welfare, and be a highly motivated and dynamic academic who will contribute to the overall ongoing success of the School.
The appointment will complement and build on our existing research and teaching strengths (please see https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/schools/school-of-biological-and-marine-sciences). There is flexibility but applications from scientists with expertise in behaviour and/or welfare would be particularly welcome.
You will combine an aspiration to be world-class in your area of research with enthusiastic and research-informed teaching. Although the role is closely aligned to our BSc Animal Behaviour and Welfare Programme, you will contribute to teaching across the Biological Sciences Subject Group at undergraduate and postgraduate level. You will have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, supported by experience at postdoctoral or equivalent level, and a proven research track record demonstrated through high calibre outputs of a quality likely to contribute to our future UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission. All activities that you undertake within this role need to be in compliance with the University’s Safety Policy and undertaken in a way that demonstrates the University’s commitment to Equality and Diversity for staff, students and partners.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement as well as how you complement our existing strengths. Please also ensure you include a full CV.
For an informal discussion to find out more about the role then please contact Dr Rich Billington by email richard.billington@plymouth.ac.uk or by telephone (mobile number available on request by email due to current Covid-19 situation).
We expect interviews to be held in late October/early November 2020.
A willingness to travel is essential as you will be required to travel and work at different University locations and attend local, national and international field courses.
We offer a competitive salary package and a generous pension and holiday scheme. We also offer a range of other benefits, including ongoing development opportunities.
A relocation package is available with this role (if applicable).
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
Flexible working options including job share will be considered.
Please note, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the University is currently implementing a number of safety measures as per Government advice therefore the successful applicant may be required to work from home in the first instance.
The University of Plymouth is committed to equality of opportunity, promoting a diverse and inclusive culture, demonstrated through our commitment to the gender equality Athena SWAN Charter and as a Stonewall diversity champion. All applications will be judged solely on merit, however, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently under-represented in the workforce, for example black and minority ethnic groups.
University of Plymouth holds a TEF (Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework) Silver by the Office for Students.
