University of Plymouth and its Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry have a strong record of excellence and innovation across its teaching and research activities. Research within the medical, dental and biomedical schools is translational and relevant to improving patient health and the quality of patient care. A recent investment of GBP 25million into the Institute of Translational and Stratified Medicine (ITSMed) strengthened and complemented existing centres of excellence. The Institute brings together the world-class research strengths of Plymouth University and clinical partners.
ITSMED works across traditional boundaries and has recruited researchers from around the world and received significant MRC, BBSRC, NIHR, CR-UK and other charity funding. Our key research themes are, Clinical Neuroscience, Cancer and Infection, Inflammation and Immunity. Ongoing investment in the University will lead to the opening of a new expanded research Derriford research facility in 2017with improved in vivo facilities, easier access to genomics and proteomics set-ups, together with expanded imaging capacity. The success of our research has also been acknowledge in the recent research excellence exercise (REF) where in clinical medicine our researchers had the highest quality output per researcher of all UK medical schools. Within Clinical Neuroscience we have a focus on Neurodegenerative diseases especially Huntingtons, Parkinson-related disorders and Dementia together with an increasing expertise in research on tumours of the CNS. The research in these areas ranges from biomedical research to clinical trials.
Within ITSMED) we are looking for an ambitious colleague to further strengthen research in Neurodegenerative diseases The open position is in biomedical research preferably in Parkinson related disorders or Dementia. The post is at Associate Professor or Professor level depending on experience. You will be based in the new Derriford research facility and some start up support is available.
