Applications are invited for the role of Teaching and Research Associate (TARA) within the BSc (Hons) Optometry programme of the School of Health Professions.
This is an exciting opportunity to register, and work towards a fully funded PhD whilst supporting the teaching of the University of Plymouth Optometry programme.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, fully qualified optometrist who is interested in both clinical teaching and research.
The primary responsibilities associated with the teaching aspect of the post will be to support the learning and development of final year undergraduate students through effective supervision and assessment of clinical competence within our patient-facing Centre for Eyecare Excellence (CEE), in accordance with the standards for adequate supervision outlined by the General Optical Council (GOC).
The research aspect of the role will see you complete a PhD under the supervision of a member of the Eye and Vision research group, within the Institute of Health and Community. You will be able to select a research project in any of the specialist areas supported by the Eye and Vision Research group, to include visual perception, ocular biomechanics, accommodation, myopia, public health, mechanisms of disease, cataract and refractive surgery, and vision and balance.
You will be encouraged to discuss your areas of interest with the relevant members of the academic team and to select in accordance with your personal interests. This role will see you become part of a vibrant and interdisciplinary community of PhD students, within the School of Health Professions. You will expand upon your current skillset and will start upon the path to becoming an expert within your chosen field.
You are required to hold at least a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree in Optometry and have been registered with the General Optical Council (GOC) as a qualified optometrist for at least 2 years on commencement of the post.
This is a fixed term contract for 5 years, working 22.2 hours per work (0.6 FTE). The remaining 0.4 FTE will be designated to your funded PhD studies.
