University of Plymouth Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for up to 10 PhD Teaching Assistantships.
You'd be joining a cohort of 220 Postgraduate Researchers within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities who work across a variety of disciplines recognised as world-leading. In addition to our centres of excellence in digital design (iDat, TransTech) and the critical humanities (Cornerstone, Heritage Hub) Plymouth has long been a national leader in the fostering of creative arts practice and the study of creativity, with research students in these areas benefiting from collegiate cohorts, interdisciplinary study, and ever-increasing international partnerships (in USA, China, Greece, Italy, Nepal, Jordan, and Ethiopia).
You will pursue PhD degrees and gain professional teaching experience within the following Schools and disciplines:
School of Art, Design, and Architecture
School of Humanities and Performing Arts
English, Creative Writing, History, Art History, Theatre and Performance
Please visit the webpages of the relevant disciplines for Staff profiles and areas of research expertise.
In addition to a full-fee waiver, you will be trained to undertake teaching within a subject, up to a maximum of 3 hours per week during term time. This will be paid at Grade 6 on the University's pay spine and will approximately equate to a 0.1 position, circa GBP 3000 per annum to be paid monthly. Research training will be supported through the University's Graduate School and the Faculty's Doctoral Training Centre, where you will be required to attend and pass various 'research skills' modules.
You are required to have a good honours degree and likely a masters degree in a relevant subject, and a strong wish to pursue a PhD on a relevant topic. You will also be interested in a career in the Higher Education Sector, specifically in teaching, and thus need to possess excellent communication and team working skills. You are highly encouraged to make contact with possible PhD supervisors in advance of making applications.
Registration will be for a full-time PhD study, with teaching time limited to circa 3 hours per week (with remaining time for PhD study) on a fixed-term basis for a maximum duration of 3 years.
The Doctoral Teaching Assistantships are limited to Home/EU students only.
