The University of Plymouth is opening a new Brain Research Imaging Centre (BRIC) which will host state of the art human neuroimaging facility. The BRIC is developing a resilient IT infrastructure to support data storage and computing facilities for the centre. The platform is composed of an Azure cloud server solution and client PCs. It will provide services to support the administration of BRIC, its Teaching and Learning activities and its Research projects.
The role will be based on the North Campus in the new BRIC building and on the main City Campus. The role will involve the opportunity to work closely with researchers and with other IT colleagues at the university.
We are currently looking to employ a very motivated Linux System Specialist/DevOps Engineer at BRIC to develop and support this infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience with open-source technologies, Clustering, Computational Technologies, Ansible, CI/CD, and skills in automation, scalability and security. You will be responsible for managing the server environment (linux), organizing data access, storage, backup and archival.
The role will involve the opportunity to work closely with researchers and with other IT colleagues at the university.
You will be expected to collaborate with other IT staff and BRIC lab users to build a linux-based infrastructure to run analyses of brain-image and other neuroscience data. You will be required to understand the needs of the end users in terms of data storage, access and computing capacities. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the platform, ensuring the continuity of services and adequate level of security.
