The School of Psychology will make a number of appointments to support its delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and research in Clinical and Applied Psychology. Each of the posts below is available either as stand-alone part-time positions, or in combination with another of the posts, to create a full-time position. Teaching
The School of Psychology offers many opportunities to develop your teaching career at undergraduate, masters and doctoral level. The school delivers BPS accredited single and combined Honours BSc degrees in Psychology, an integrated undergraduate Masters programme in Advanced Psychology, a suite of taught postgraduate programmes, research MPhil and PhDs, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. The School of Psychology offers excellent research facilities to support your career, with a large suite of recently-refurbished dedicated research facilities covering a broad range of methodologies, supported by a dedicated technical team. The School houses a number of active research groups, and those appointed to Academic Grade 9 will be expected to contribute to the success of one of these groups, or to help establish a new group. Research in the School of Psychology forms part of the University's multidisciplinary Cognition Research Institute (https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/research/institutes/cognition), which helps link our research to areas of strength across the entire University.
The University's commitment to supporting research in Psychology was demonstrated this year with a multi-million pound investment to establish a University Brain Research and Imaging Centre, which is currently in the building phase, with an anticipated launch date of 2019.
The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme
The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme in Plymouth is nationally recognised for its innovative approach to teaching and learning, training for values based and reflective practice, and for its critical approach to psychological knowledge. It strives to deliver high quality clinical training in the South West Peninsula Region. Service receiver participation is fully embedded in all aspects of programme delivery. The Health and Care Professions Council have approved the programme in 2018 and it was successfully re-accredited by the British Psychological Society in 2017 with a number of commendations. The Programme had an annual intake of 11 trainees for 2018, with 35 trainees enrolled in total for 2018-19. In 2019, a new Masters in Clinical Psychology will be launched, and it is anticipated that these posts will support and shape that development in line with national and local strategies for developing a mental health workforce.
Those applying to the posts with the Clinical grades will be expected to make a major contribution to delivering teaching for the D Clin Psy Programme and to contribute to clinical psychology teaching within the School of Psychology as we develop new programmes in line with national initiatives. You will also be expected to contribute to the research component of training including supervising trainee research. You will join a team committed to training highly skilled professionals to meet the changing needs of health and social care services.
A Doctoral qualification (PhD or DClinPsy) or commensurate level of recognition/international profile in a relevant discipline is essential, along with experience of delivering high quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Support to develop research supervision, teaching and initiating your own research projects will be available.
