Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PU PSMD) has an exciting suite of taught Masters level programmes and in 2015 launched a Postgraduate Diploma Physician Associate (PA) Studies, which becomes an MSc PA Studies from January 2018. This post seeks to appoint a Physician Associate to the position of Lecturer in Postgraduate Clinical Education (Physician Associate Studies). You will be highly motivated and passionate about developing a career in postgraduate clinical education and in delivering education on the MSc Physician Associate programme here at PU PSMD. You will have an interest in developing yourself in an academic role and some previous experience of teaching and learning either within an academic setting or with experience transferable to working in healthcare education.
Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry has an established reputation for its clinical education in both Medicine and Dentistry, and the Physician Associate programme, which is delivered within the Medical School alongside the BMBS programme, was commended by the Faculty Board Physician Associates for producing graduates with 'outstanding clinical skills'. The PA programme is embedded within the Medical School at PU PSMD, so you would be joining an established and experienced team of clinical and non-clinical academics involved in delivery of the programme.
As a lecturer on the MSc Physician Associate Studies, you will work in conjunction with colleagues in the Medical School on the design, development and delivery of teaching and learning across the Physician Associate Studies (PA) Programme. You would also spend one day/week in clinical practice with responsibility for the supervision and assessment of students and PA Graduates on clinical placement at one of our main sponsoring Trusts (Torbay NHS Trust). There is an opportunity to develop your own academic knowledge and skills through completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education (MClinEd) or Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) at the University.
You will hold a Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Physician Associate Studies and ideally have a minimum of 2 years clinical experience. A postgraduate qualification in education/teaching is desirable and experience of working in healthcare in a clinical and/or leadership role is essential.
This will be a Plymouth University appointment based at the John Bull Building, Plymouth Science Park at Derriford in Plymouth.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours (5 days) per week on a permanent basis, however a part-time appointment would be considered.
For an informal discussion about the position, please contact Dr Veronica Maynard, Associate Head of School Postgraduate Medical Education at veronica.maynard@pms.ac.uk
