We are seeking a lecturer in hydrography and ocean exploration to join our team within the Faculty of Science and Engineering here in Plymouth. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual with proven expertise in hydrography through commercial practice and/or research. Plymouth has a long history of teaching in Hydrography and the subject remains a key area of interest and expertise within University of Plymouth. In recent years, there has been substantial investment in a new waterfront Marine Station, state of the art survey vessels and survey equipment (https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/schools/school-of-engineering/marine-station). You will be expected to take a major role in furthering Hydrography teaching and research at the University. Plymouth hosts a range of other marine industries and research organisations making Plymouth an international focal point for marine science.This role will be based within the Marine Science subject area in the School of Biological and Marine Sciences. You will be expected to make a major contribution to and further develop our MSc Hydrography programme, as well as associated undergraduate courses within the Marine Science subject area (including our BSc (Hons) Ocean Exploration and Surveying course). In addition, you will be expected to develop commercial links and collaboration with the Hydrographic industry internationally and to build innovative industry-relevant research initiatives that would support student learning, employment and University research.You will have extensive expertise in the field of hydrography, and an active interest in developing technologies in the fields of automated and autonomous surveying. You will have and broad range of high-level skills in hydrographic data collection, processing and interpretation/analysis. An appropriate postgraduate academic qualification in a relevant field, usually a doctorate or equivalent qualification or a relevant postgraduate professional qualification/accreditation and/or significant relevant experience in professional practice is required. This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
