The role
University of Plymouth, among the highest-ranked modern higher education institutions in the world and with a reputation for excellence in teaching and research, is seeking to appoint a Director to lead our Research & Innovation (R&I) Directorate. This exciting and challenging position will be responsible for the leadership, organisation, alignment and provision of services relating to the transformation and delivery of research, innovation and enterprise in line with the University's strategic aims.
You will be responsible for developing the University's commercialisation strategy in close liaison with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) to increase research quality, impact and income as well as overseeing business ventures and collaboration with commercial and industrial interests.
The person
A self-starter and highly motivated individual, you will be a proven leader with a record of developing and delivering strategic plans, demonstrating an understanding of governmental approaches and current thinking of HE research, innovation and enterprise. Ideally with senior leadership experience in a similar role, you will need to have a genuine passion for research and innovation.
A strong and effective communicator and already operating at a senior level you will have a record of building and maintaining strong professional relationships with a range of customers and stakeholders. Preferably set within a Higher Education environment, these relationships would have resulted in the development of large collaborations and funding proposals.
You will be qualified to at least to degree level and possess advanced diagnostic skills, with substantial business planning, strategic analysis and evaluation abilities.
Flexibility for UK travel will be required.
