The University’s Research and Innovation Directorate is looking for an experienced consultancy and contract research manager to join our team to support the commercial exploitation of research and knowledge exchange opportunities at the University.
The Research and Innovation Directorate plays a crucial role in supporting the University to secure funding for research across a diverse range of disciplines from the creative arts to medicine. We work closely with academics in the creation of impactful relationships between them and external organisations, including the development and exploitation of commercial opportunities. With an ambitious institutional strategy around research excellence and knowledge exchange, this role is central to our mission and represents an exciting opportunity to develop, deliver and grow commercial funding as part of a dynamic and motivated team sitting at the heart of the University.
Reporting to the Director of Research and Innovation, the Senior Commercial Funding Manager will lead a small team of Commercial Funding Managers with a role to actively advise and support academic colleagues from across the University to undertake consultancy, contract research and other externally funded programmes of work, seeking to drive up interest and engagement in commercial opportunities across the University. The role will work alongside the Senior Research Funding Manager and the Senior Innovation Funding Manager to provide an excellent and responsive advisory and support service to academics across all disciplines.
You will manage a wide portfolio of projects, covering all aspects of commercial project development, contracting and competitive tendering. Other responsibilities will include budgetary authority, management of project finances, appointment of project staff, risk management and reporting.
You will have a creative, proactive approach to problem solving and be able to use your experience to help realise the commercial potential of opportunities presented to them from a variety of sources. You must be well organised, with the ability to prioritise work effectively, working under pressure to deliver against tight deadlines. A particularly important feature of this role is establishing and maintaining positive relationships with both academic colleagues and external clients to ensure that projects are delivered successfully and that the University’s strategic aims are realised.
